Jerec Velez has over 30 years of experience as a professional
dancer/performer and choreographer. He was mentored by such greats as George
De La Pena, Rebecca Wright of ABT, Terri Lewis, Athena Pallas, Bella Lewitsky
and Jonathon Wolken, cofounder of Pilobolus. Over the years, Jerec has
performed with LA Opera and Opera Pacific and an assortment of ballets,
including: A Christmas Carole, The Nutcracker, Babes in Toyland, Coppelia,
Petrouchka, Don Quixote and Carnival of Animals. More recently, Jerec studied
contemporary dance in The Hague, Holland, with Nederlands Dance Theatre, an
eclectic contemporary dance company with a strong ballet base. Jerec also
holds a Masters in Education and a BA in Dance from CSULB.
Jerec is
currently selling his children’s chapter book, “Ruby Meets a Little Girl that
has Fallen in the Flowers” and beautifying gardens with his
business “California Rainforest.” At TDC, Jerec teaches Ballet, Contemporary
and Ballet Teen (ballet technique for teenagers just starting out).
Jerec has also
played the mysterious role of Drosselmeyer in TDC’s annual The Nutcracker
Ballet and he is extremely proud to have been a part of the cast in all 10
years it which it has been been produced. Jerec’s biggest joy is watching all
the dancers grow, get new parts and become better dancers.
